Whatever your outdoor recreation pleasure, you’re sure to find it in and around the region surrounding Mountain View. This historic community’s central Ozark location makes it an ideal home base for vacationers, retirees, weekend warriors or mid-week escapees. One can couple a leisurely scenic Ozark drive with visits to nearby regional attractions before returning to Mountain View for dinner, a music show and music on the historic courthouse square. Exploratory and sporting adventures abound in and around the region.

Golf on some of the most beautiful courses you’ll find in Arkansas. Go horseback riding through the woods. Rent a canoe or kayak and take a leisurely float down one of the scenic rivers close by. Hire a knowledgeable fishing guide and fill your creel with trout.

Explore the ghost town of Rush. Swim in crystal clear creeks and streams surrounded by towering rock bluffs. Bring your mountain bike and ride the Sylamo trail through the Ozark National Forest. Explore the countryside by taking one of many scenic drives, especially great for motorcycle enthusiasts.

The Ozark region offers many excellent campgrounds which are outfitted for everything from primitive camping to group oriented facilities. The Sylamore Ranger District, in the Ozark National Forest includes Gunner Pool, Barkshed. and Blanchard Springs Campgrounds.

The Central Ozark Region contains many scenic rivers, which have carved into the ancient plane and the valleys, now known as the Ozark Mountains. Area rivers and lakes, including the close-by White River, offer visitors multiple opportunities for swimming, fishing, and boating. For those of you who don’t prefer to go it on your own or don’t have your own equipment, boat and canoe rentals and guided fishing businesses abound.

Scenic Drives/ Sight Seeing

Highways and backroads offering picture postcard views abound in the Ozarks. Take your time and maybe even a picnic lunch and enjoy exploring some of these out of the way spots.

Blanchard Springs/Fifty Six:
Hwy 87 north to Hwy14 west, to Blanchard Springs. Then Hwy 14 west to Fifty Six. Take Hwy 14 east to County highway 86 (Roasting Ear Creek road) turn left and stay on Hwy 86 until you get to State Hwy 66. Turn left on Hwy 66 and take it back to Mountain View.

Calico Rock:
Take Hwy 5 north to Calico Rock In downtown Calico Rock, pick up Hwy 223 north to Hwy 56 east to Brockwell. Then take Hwy 9 south through Melborne and back to Mountain View. Caution….Hwy 9 from Melbourne is very curvy!

Push Mountain:
Take Hwy 5 north through Norfork. Shortly after Norfork, you will come to Hwy 341. Take 341 to Hwy 14. Take Hwy 14 west to Big Flat. Just after Big Flat, pick up Hwy 263 to Onia and Timbo. Left on Hwy 66 at Timbo takes you back to Mountain View.

Yellville/Flippin:
Hwy 5 north to Sylamore. Then take 14 west to Yellville. Pick up Hwy 62 east to Flippin. Stay on Hwy 62 to Mountain Home. In Mountain Home switch to Hwy 5 south for a short way, then take Hwy 201 to Hwy 341. Turn left on 341 for a short distance where it joins Hwy 5. Take Hwy 5 to Norfork and then keep going on Hwy 5 south through Calico Rock back to Mountain View.

Jasper:
Hwy 66 west to Leslie. Right on Hwy 65 north to Western Grove. Take Hwy 123 south through Hasty to Hwy 74 North and into Jasper. To return, take Hwy 7 North to Hwy 206. Take 206 west to Hwy 65 South. Take 65 south to Marshall where you pick up Hwy 74 east. Stay on Hwy 74 east until it intersects at Hwy 66 and take Hwy 66 east back into Mountain View.
